Yishakayni minshikot piyhu!

Kiss me with the kisses of your mouth! (Song of Songs 1:2)

The Song of Songs begins with this request. We invite God – Reality – the World-as-it-is – Existence-itself… to an intimate direct encounter. That Divine kiss in turn invites us into our passion. Our practice is to release all passivity, pucker up and engage with Life. To receive the Divine kiss is to die to this moment and be reborn in love. Can we receive it in the color of the sky? In this breath? With this step? Can we open to the gift that God is giving us in “this?”

Let Me Hear Your Voice: Chaverim Makshivim

Chaverim Makshivim l’kolaych, Hashmi’ini, hashmi’ini

Oh Woman in the garden,
this garden of Love,
let me hear Your Voice! (Song of Songs 8:13)

We aspire to be “the Listening Friends” who loyally listen for the voice of Shechinah. She is whispering always, gifting Her Wisdom and Love to all who enter the Garden of this life with the requisite attention, receptivity, strength of purpose, longing and open-hearted expectancy. In listening, we surrender to the widest embrace.

God-Window Practice: Dodi Tzafanti Lach

Dodi Tzafanti Lach

My hidden (treasure) is Yours, My Beloved. (Song of Songs 7:14)

This is a practice of release. Whatever is hidden inside us, we give over to God, The Beloved, who lovingly relieves us of our burden of shame, pride or secret, transforming that encumbrance, leaving us lighter, and more open to receive the gift of this moment.

I call this a God-Window practice, because every time I chant the word, Lach (It’s Yours) I send my hidden material through a soul window to God. A powerful way to do this practice is with a partner who can be that God-Window, who can get out of the way yet still remain present and open. As I chant through the eyes of my partner, their strong presence becomes a God-Window, allowing my hiddenness to flow through their transparent presence to the great Divine beyond.

Every time I say Lach, I add a physical gesture (moving my hand from my heart outwards to God) to amplify the force of release. In the silence after the chant, I open to receive God’s mysterious presence into the place that has been emptied.

Heart-Seal: Simayni

Simayni chachotam al libecha

Set me as a seal upon your heart. (Song of Songs 8:6)

When God, my Beloved instructs me to place the sign of Divinity on my heart, I take it as an opportunity to lay my heart bare and surrender to the truth of my inner identity. With this practice I receive the imprint of God’s love, and I surrender to that love.

Beloved: Ani l’dodi

Ani l’dodi v’Dodi li

I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine. (Song of Songs 6:3)

God as this world holds me in Her loving embrace. I belong to The Whole. I am an integral aspect to Everything-that-is. I belong. And that wondrous mystery I call God is central to all I see, all I do, all I know, all I am. With this chant I raise up my awareness and attune my vibration with the truth being totally accepted, and totally beloved… flowing with the Divine Will, lifted up into the arms of the Infinite.
